MLA Digital Checkist | Teacher Made
I used Teacher Made to create this MLA Digital Checklist! It is a website that you can use to edit PDFs, different image formats (JPG, PNG, GIF), and DOCX files to enable students to fill them out as a digital worksheet online. This resource is really great because it enables teachers to digitize print resources and make them available to students, which is something that is really important in education right now. To create a digital worksheet, you login to Teacher Made, click the "Actions" button at the top right-hand corner of the screen and select "Create Worksheet." Then you must give the worksheet a title, a description, and upload a file to be edited. The second to last picture above shows this step. Next, you can edit your worksheet in their easy to use interface. This interface reminds me of Google Docs, and it is shown in the last screenshot in the slideshow. Using the Teacher Made tools you can add Teacher Text, which could include instructions or other text that you want to put on the worksheet. I used the Teacher Text to create the name/date text. You can also add short answer/fill-in-the-blank questions, found under the text box icon (I used this for the name/date entry boxes), paragraph questions, found under the P icon, dropdown questions, found under the arrow icon, matching, found under the crossed arrows icon, multiple choice, found under the bullseye icon, and checkboxes, found under the checkbox icon (I used these to create the checklist). Another feature is the hotspot question, found under the fire icon, which allows you to insert a section on the worksheet where the students are supposed to click, and if they click the right section they will answer the question correctly. The hotspot function can be particularly useful when using diagrams on the worksheet. Some additional features include the ability to insert images, voice recordings, links, erase part of the worksheet, and draw on the worksheet. In the student view the students have similar features including the ability to answer with text, images, shapes, writing, highlighting, and through a voice recording. You can also assign point values to questions and Teacher Made will auto-grade the worksheet for you. Finally, you can share this worksheet using a link.
This resource ties into the Danielson Framework for Teaching in both Domain 1: Planning and Preparation and Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities. In Domain 1, this resource is helpful for Component 1d: Demonstrating Knowledge of Resources because, as a resource, Teacher Made allows teachers to become familiar with developing editable online resources for their students and provides a way to make their print resources digital. Teacher Made also assists with Component 1e: Designing Coherent Instruction. Through this program, teachers can develop diverse resources by making PDFs editable and creating images with clickable concepts so that students can use them in their learning. An example of this would be having students click on different parts of a passage of text to show that they know the literary device found in the text. In addition, teachers are able to scan and make print resources digital, which allows them to keep their resources current with our digital world and convenient for students to work with online. Finally, Teacher Made falls into Domain 4 under Component 4e: Growing and Developing Professionally. Teacher Made helps teachers grow in their technological abilities and transition to an online world by digitizing their resources in a simple and efficient way. It also allows them to come up with creative digital ways to reach different students, even incorporating ways to reach tactile learners through hot spots or enabling drawing for answers on the worksheet.
I really like the resource of Teacher Made. It saves a lot of time for teachers because it allows them to digitize resources from print sources and from PDFs for their students to use without having to retype everything. I plan to use it in my classroom to create digital worksheets for my students and to digitize print resources. In addition, I could use the drawing and hotspot functions to create an online resource for students to annotate a passage of text.
Teacher Made relates to the 4 C's of the Partnership for 21st Century Learning, (Creativity and Innovation, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Communication, and Collaboration) particularly under the two C's of Creativity and Innovation and Critical Thinking and Problem Solving. For the teacher, this technology tool is creative and innovative because it allows them to adapt their resources to the digital world that we live in today and even add in new and unique features such as the ability to write on the worksheet or highlight digital text. It also requires the teacher to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to devise the best way to adapt their print, image, or PDF resources to a digital worksheet format. For the students, this resource enables them to use their critical thinking and problem solving skills to answer the questions on the digital worksheet and their creativity and innovation to choose how to answer the questions by clicking on a hotspot or drawing on a diagram. Teacher Made also falls under the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Students, especially the standards of Empowered Learner and Creative Communicator. When using Teacher Made, students become empowered learners because they use the technology of the digital worksheets when they are completing them to demonstrate that they have learned the content that is on the worksheet. In addition, they become creative communicators because, when answering these questions, they are able to choose how to answer the question by using the best tool (Highlighter, shapes, voice recording, or text) that will effectively show their learning.
