About Me
Hi! I am Abbey McFeely, a certified Pennsylvania Instructional I English (7-12) teacher and a graduate from Grove City College with an English and Secondary Education Certification major and a Spanish minor. I want to be a teacher of impact and invest in students by teaching them through a careful study of English how to communicate clearly, how to have compassion on others, and how they can use their gifts and talents to serve our world!
Literature allows us to see into the souls of others and learn from their successes and failures, such as how Othello shows us the dangers of passion, and Wordsworth reminds us of the humbling sublimity of nature. Through teaching, I hope to reveal to my students these lessons and encourage them to live their lives wisely. What makes me excited to teach is interacting with students, getting to know them and their interests, and learning together as we share ideas!
I have a passion for experiential learning, Spanish, and other cultures. I studied abroad in Seville, Spain during the fall semester of 2022. Before and after heading to my study abroad city, I traveled to the Lake District, Eastbourne, Manchester, and London in England to see the country and to visit literary sites such as Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, a museum of Beatrice Potter's artwork, and Elizabeth Gaskell's house. I also traveled to Rome, Italy; Paris, France; various cities in Morocco; Lisbon, Portugal; and many cities in Spain to learn about their rich cultural history and historical sites. During my time abroad, I finished my minor in Spanish and became immersed in the Spanish culture by living with a Spanish family in a home stay. It was a wonderful experience that changed my perspective on the world and will allow me to bring a global perspective into my classroom.
